“Catering problems mean no meals for people with...”

My husband and son flew from Toronto to Amsterdam this past week, and due to problems KLM was having with their catering suppliers, the standard on-board meals weren't available. Instead, sandwiches (made with butter) and pizza (made with cheese) were proferred. My son has a serious milk allergy and could eat neither of these offerings. I understand that sometimes things happen that are beyond the administration's control, but I would expect a serious airline to commandeer fruit plates from somewhere - these would also have been appropriate for people who need gluten-free, kosher, halal, low fat, low salt and vegetarian diets too. But then, it probably would have cost more than they wanted to pay. In any event, I'll do my best not to fly KLM in the future.
