We booked easyjet Amman Jordan to London. (In Amman, there is a security check before reaching the check in desks). At the airport, we were refused from entering security - based on the easyjet duty manager communicating with security entrance (as the security guard informed us). While passengers for other airlines were passing, we were held for 10 minutes, following which we were allowed to pass (which made no sense if the flight was "closed").
After passing through security, at 58 minutes prior to departure, we were informed the flight was closed. As we attempted to convince the duty manager to let us board the flight, we were offered an alternative to fly one week later (which made no sense for us, of course). At the same time, the duty manager and the easyjet sales girl were laughing - they seemed to be having fun with it. It was very clear this was manipulated.
We were effectively forced to pay for a night in the hotel and for another flight with another airline the next day. In addition, the flight was late boarding by 15 minutes - as we saw when we were attempting to sort out alternative flights.
Upon following up with easyjet, I was told I was late, and also that the airport report said I was drunk. Completely outrageous - as I rarely drink alcohol and had not had a drink all day.
Our take on it: the flight was overbooked... it was an easy way for easyjet to pass on their costs to us - by manipulation.
