My husband and I went Puerto Rico for vacation via American Airlines. We had exactly the same luggage pieces which were selected so they would fit into the overhead compartment on the plane. Getting there went well, but when we attempted to board the plane coming home, they forced my husband to check his luggage because they said it would not fit in the overhead. I had the same luggage and it went in the overhead with room to spare. We finally get to DFW and his luggage is missing. They said it was still in Miami and that it would be in DFW by 9:00 p.m. They also agreed to deliver it to us upon arrival at 9:00 p.m. It is Sunday morning, 7/24/2011 and we haven't gotten a call, an acknowledgement of any kind that his luggage has been found, a request for delivery, a confirmation that we will ever get the luggage or anything else for that matter.
Issues of contention:
1. forced luggage checkin
2. lost forced luggage checked in (with name, address and telephone number tag identifying luggage clearly visible)
3. no call or delivery as promised of lost luggage
4. not a happy customer.

Poor that they 'mis-placed' your luggage and really poor customer service. The hall-mark of American Airlines. However I have flown lots internally in the USA and it is terrible. What makes it terrible. The scrum to be the first on the plane. The fight as everyone tries to cram bags (that are too big) in overhead lockers. The scrum to get bags down at the end of the flight and be first off. The airlines need to be much stricter about bag sizes and number of bags as carry on. Some poeple are taking the peeee.
