I flew return from London Gatwick to Vancouver with Air Transat. Overall I think you get what you pay for. The planes are a bit dated (although they are in the process of refurbishing their entire fleet) and the food is average at best, but this is all reflected in the ticket price. Air Transat were significantly cheaper than any other airline when I booked my ticket and so I was expecting a fairly cheap and cheerful experience.
The baggage check-in process was flawless both ways - no queues, no hassle. The staff onboard the plane were perfectly friendly. The seats could be better but the leg room was nowhere near as bad as I had been led to believe by other reviews. At 6'3" I will always be wishing for more legroom but as cheaper airlines go it wasn't bad at all.
The flight both ways was bang on schedule - no delays at all.
The onboard entertainment leaves a bit to be desired but this is being addressed with the interior overhaul of all the planes.
Overall I don't think you can complain too much given the cost of the flights compared to more expensive airlines. Providing you can secure a ticket at a significantly cheaper price than Virgin etc., I don't think you'll be too disappointed.
