I have a 770 in a 300 mag. I thought it would be an improvement of the 710, its not.It has a poor action and a very tricky mag. The best bolt action i have found is the Marlin XL7. I have one in 30-06 and shoot a 1 3/8 group at 300 yards and it has just as smooth of action as a $10,000 gun. It has a 4 round hidden box mag and a free floating barrel. It is the one i think gives savage a little competition.
