“Socom 1000, worst barrel droop I've seen”

Written on: 15/09/2012

I bought a Socom 1000 in Sweden to shoot targets with my son. When using the on barrel 'iron sight' the gun was passable. However, when I changed to a scope it was a different story. No matter what I did, I could not align the sight. The gun shot low. Since the iron sight was on target and the sight was not, I suspected barrel droop. On a barrel cocked air gun, the light of sighting breaks at the end of the barrel. The iron sight, being on the end of the barrel can be true, but an optical sight near the stock could be off. That's because the barrel is not aligned with the rest of the gun. This is not an unusual problem with an air gun so I bought a 10 degree corrector. The corrector mounts between the sight and the gun, with a 10 degree down slope to put the scope parallel to the barrel. In my case, even this didn't help. The Gamo Socom 1000 had more than a 10 degree droop, making it practically unusable with a scope. What a waste of money. :-(
