“Not as good as it should be”

Written on: 20/04/2012 by robsta (2 reviews written)

I bought this after a lot of research, looking for a 1911 to add to my collection. My honest opinion is that it isn't as good as it should be.

The first one I bought had a faulty valve and constantly leaked CO2, thus had to be replaced.

Having got the replacement, I note the following issues (which were also present on the first model I had):

1/ Chrome-plating to hammer and backstrap looks cheap.
2/ Magazine "rattles" around in the grip- it could have been a much tighter fit.
3/ Slide lock doesn't engage positivley enough, and has a tendancy to release without being depressed.
4/ Safety feels cheap and still allows the trigger to be half pulled, while at the same time feeling like it shouldn't be able to.
5/ In single action the hammer seems to drop at the release of the trigger, not at its depression, i.e. pulling the trigger does not drop the hammer, but releaseing it does.
6/Despite a published FPS of 395 (compared to the 425 FPS of the Umarex Beretta 92), there is an audible delay on the bb reaching its target, which is not the case with the Beretta, leading me to think the FPS may be nearer to the 300 end.

The first model had all the above issues, except the slide would not return without being pushed by hand.

Overall opinion? While general accuracy is ok for a BB gun, build quality is reasonable at best, and not a patch on German-made Umarex pistols. Compared to other guns in my collection (Beretta 92, Tanfoglio Witness 1911 and Gamo PT-85), this is the poorest gun both in terms of build quality and function, yet was the third most expensive. Therefore I would have to say it is not worth the money.
