If, like me, you grew up climbing trees, propelling yourself over fences and doing the sort of things that would make the blood drain from your parents faces, and now as an adult, have wondered where in this increasingly cotton wool wrapped world you can go to let your children experience some of that same exhilaration and excitement, then this holiday at the Acorn Camp in Tan Troed is most definately for you. It is happening there, and it is happening now. Myself, my two children (6 and... (read more)

We have just returned from a great week away at the Acorn Holidays site at Tan Troed, Brecon. The staff were wonderful, engaging with all families in a friendly and professional way and leading us in a variety of adventure activities that our son really enjoyed and kept us all busy throughout. The weather was amazing and we made some good friendships with the other families in our tented Sugarloaf village. At all times we felt safe and happy as the children and adults played together. It was... (read more)

I booked the holiday following a groupon deal, and thought we'd give it a go - once! How wrong I was - definitely think the experience will be repeated!! I did all the activities, despite having lots of irrational fears, thanks mainly to the encouragement and patience if all the instructors. This is an 'adventure' holiday so don't expect a 5* spa break - however, there is a mud bath included! The camp is split into 'villages' which seemed to group similar family dynamics together. We... My family took a holiday weekend on the Jubilee to Brecon. We expected tents (which there were), food served (which was good, but always late), activities (there were some but not well organised), and a decent night sleep (ruined by uncontrolled drunk parents running around campsite). I did expect to be taken seriously when I complained when we returned home, but to date have not had any response other then "you can have a discount off the next holiday" Pretty poor reponse for what ended... Our experience was wonderful, one month after you. I'm sorry that you had some difficulties. If you were there when we were, I'm sure you would have loved it too. Hope your next holiday is as good as ours was.

My 2 boys and I went on our first Acorn camp to the Ardeche. My expectations were exceeded. Great activities - exciting and always busy! Hardly a moment to think so my boys were never bored. We had great food (and wine too!) and the staff were always lively and helpful. The tents on first sight looked a little rough - but I have never slept better - and as the weather was great we hardly spent any time in them. The trip of the Ardeche was amazing - but some previous canoe / kayak experience... (read more)

What a brilliant holiday ! It's a tent-based holiday so it's not about luxury, just about having fun. (Tents OK, beds comfy (real mattresses), hot showers and a mess tent, so basic comfort OK.) The staff had fantastic attitudes; it was all about helping us - kids and adults - have a ball. The daytime activities ranged from good to excellent and in the evenings JoJo and Jas often did stuff with the kids, and the staff were always happy to knock a ball about for a few minutes or whatever on... My 12 year old son and I had a brilliant week in the Brecon Beacons. To be honest we were torn between an all inclusive abroad or this activity week - we definately chose the best option. We were kept busy from morning to night and had plenty of bruises to show for it !!! The watersports were brilliant fun and the instructors were very patient and encouraging with the kids that were a bit nervous. No one was pushed into doing anything they weren't comfortable with. Welshy, Matt & Mash... (read more)

We went on our first Acorn holiday this summer and it was amazing. The coach was top notch and the drivers were great. We stayed in France For 5 days, the tents were as described and more than adequate. The food was ok most of the time, although some of the evening meals weren't great (apparently the main chef was off sick). The staff on site were great, if something was wrong they sorted it straight away, they were fab with the kids and made sure everyone enjoyed all the activities, which... (read more)

The campsite was OK the tents are basic, the beds are really comfy though, the site is situated in a beautiful part of Wales. On arrival you are greeted by professional, happy, courteous staff who cant help you enough. The activities througout are well organised and are safe you can get involved as much as you want the week the kids and myself went the weather was glorious yes we were lucky. The children made friends probably for life and we are planning next years holiday with two of the... (read more)

Acorn Adventure Holiday, our family comprised 50yr old parents, 15 &13yr old(there were some childern younger than this & some older). We travelled the middle 2 weeks of August 2010, dual centre Labeaume & Villeneve. The travelling isn't much fun but the coach drivers made good time and we had no hold ups either way.Just bring food, pillows, water, mags, activity stuff for kids. Make good use of the coach stops as the toilet on the coach will be pretty strong by the time you arrive.
I read the...

My 2 sons and I returned to Acorn Adventure this summer, choosing the 2 centre option of the Ardeche and Narbonne having had a fabulous time at Villeneuve last summer! There is never a dull moment but you have to have a spirit of adventure and be prepared to 'rough it' a bit as this is an adventure holiday - not a 5 star spa treatment :) You get out what you put in and if you go with the right attitude nothing can beat the experience. I am a single parent and the sense of community and the... (read more)

My 7 year old daughter and I had a fantastic week at the Acorn centre at Tan Troed in the Brecon Beacons. The weather was poor with rain on and off throughout the week but we had a wonderful time nonetheless. It was the first time she and I have been away just the two of us since I became a single parent and we BOTH really enjoyed ourselves.
There's loads to do with activities laid on throughout the day and into the evening. The food was fabulous - contrary to what a couple of reviewers...

Since I wrote this review, we've been back to Acorn twice (my daughter's badgering paid off!). In 2010 we went on the two centre Villeneuve (Italy) and LaBeaume (France) and had a great time: particular highlights were the white water rafting in Italy and the Ardeche descent in France. And in 2011 we returned to Tan Troed in Wales where we had a beautifully sunny week with great activities and delicious food as before.

Acorn Adventure is a great value holiday. the accommodation is basic but everything is included and there is no waiting round. our kids were always kept entertained and each day brought something new. some of the instructors struggled but most were fantastic and there were tears when we left. overall a grreat holiday and we wish we could have staid longer. I just got back from the Acorn in Narbonne and thought it was amazing. It is great for the family. I think the staff are great at Acorn Adventure if your not doing an activity, you are being entertained by them, but you are most likely to be doing an activity. some people complained that we didnt get a break, but i LOVED IT. what is the point in going if you dont want to do the sports. ACORN IS GREAT! :) (read more)

Acorn Adventure is a good value holiday in Brecon Beacons. Kids loved the activities, and playing with the other kids. Staff generally very good and fun. Food average, but enough of it! Good combination of watersports and land-based activities.
If you are looking for a budget family holiday which will keep the kids happy this is fine.

On the whole Acorn Adventure holiday was good value, and the children had a great time, and we had some fun, but most of all we enjoyed seeing them have fun. If you were really unhappy with the food, it might have still been good value if you went out for a few meals. And given that the food varies between centres, you might be luckier than we were. Don't expect much in the way of canoeing and climbing instruction, as you just get the basics for safety and fun. If you can't stand long coach... (read more)
