A very strong 4x4 with a great reputation, sadly some smart alec at Mercedes Benz thought it would be a good idea to take the controls from the driver and give them to a computer!
I had nothing but trouble with this Unimog U300 and it was always jumping out of gear, and no one at Mercedes knew how to fix it, after 20 plus visits to the dealers, multiple phone calls and much letter writing, 2 years down the track they finally sorted it out by which time I had had enough of it and all the inconvienience that went with it.
No good for a vehicle with a final price tag well in excess of 50 grand! This 4x4 weighed 5 ton empty and Mercedes Benz were supposed to give me a replacement vehicle of similar spec each time they had it back for repair, what did I get? A Smart car! Yes you heard it right, a Smart car! Which just about sums up Mercedes Benz's customer service.
If you're after a Unimog don't buy a new one, get a good old one and spend the money on it! Leave the computers for those in their sports cars!
From day one the list of problems grew and grew and Mercedes couldn't fix them or didn't want to.
Don't waste your money, So many people have had the same problems as I did.
