“Everyone seems to think the discovery is this and...”

Everyone seems to think the discovery is this and that, but in fact the motor is very very good, yeh sure you get little bits to replace here and there, but hey that is cars for you. Is very smooth, and very confortable indeed, when i first bought mine i drove from London to Nottingham, i was so very very surprised at how little Fuel i used, im very impressed there and round town is ok for me too. I only had to replace my air suspention just last year, 9 years after buying it. So all this air suspention talk is really just jibber jabber fool lol hehehehe. As long as you get it serviced correctly and change the oils and filters and servie itmes regularly and not leave them to rot, you will be fine. Very reliable and it alwasy starts crisp and clean, is fully loaded and i do mean fully loaded you dont get half of what i have got in my discovery in the modern cars. The seats are very very very confortable with armrests and supple leather alround, and the best bits in this modern day and age you can pick up an ES or ES Premium for peanuts and a lot are in great condition. One thing you must do is make sure you change that timing belt for a timing chain, this must not be left as it can damage the engine if it breaks, so like most things keep a good check on that area, the Active Cornering Enhancement is very good too, for such a large motor it stays very flat on corners, has traction control and indepent corner braking, and even has Hill Decent Control at the flick of a button. I dont think people who view discoverys on the road, realise just how good these motors are, if you get chance to go in one, please have ago. You will get out the car with a different mind set on the Discovery and understand why they are so popular.

Yep i love my Discovery, and my next car well simple another Discovery i love them, and the best bit i do anything with my car, plenty of space can tow 3.5 ton, my boot is massive and even bigger with all seats folded down, has two extra seats in the back also that fold away, the upgraded kardon sound system with 6 stack cd player is fantastic and the sound is awsome, i have auxilury points all the car, and two remote controls for the back seats, the list goes on and on.

yep best car i have ever owned, i love the td5 Es Premium, fantastic car.

Unlike some other reviewers, The Dealership is the best I have ever experienced for any model car (Guy Salmon, Stockport). Maybe I am just lucky. Car has been in about 3 times for a day each time, no fuss. Worst fault was the rear window wiper motor stopped working and was replaced without fuss under warranty. The courtesy car was a Disco 3 and was a great car, but if I wanted a car I would have bought another Audi or BMW. Note if you drive motorways a lot, then this is not the vehicle for you and it isn't much use on the average congested school run either. The car is used on all road types as a general family vehicle and MPG has improved from 26MPG to 29MPG by fitting a K&N airfilter. Great all rounder though.

I have owned a Land Rover TD5 ES for the past two and half years. I bought it as a replacement for my pajero (shogun) which I used to tow my twin axle caravan (sorry!). Though the disco has the same sized engine as the pajero, it is far more responsive and nippy. The interior is more stylish with leather and wood in the right places. The foldaway seats on the disco are much more comfortable and practical though the pajero has the edge with rear seat legroom and ride comfort.

“I bought an end of line Land Rover Discovery 2.5TD ES...”

★★★★★

written by Richdisco on 03/02/2005

I bought an end of line Land Rover Discovery 2.5TD ES Premium 4x4 because Discoverys are just so multi talented.

You can cruise along at 70mph, tow a car and hardly know its there or use it as a luxury vehicle with its full leather, sat nav and climate control.

The entertainment system does change from radio to CD and back a couple of times a day as it feels like it, but thats the only problem I have had.

These are tough vehicles. The one before this (a 1999 ES) I took across the Sahara desert and it performed very well, even after taking off accidentally over a small sand dune. It needed no work at all after three weeks other than a wash.

The only surpise was the cost of main dealer servicing which can easilly be £400 to £500. Lots of people have mentioned this so apparently Land Rover have planned to lower the cost for the new model Discovery.

The best day of ownership?
Being on an off road course with the traction control and diff-lock and driving about while lots of other more rugged looking 4x4s were getting stuck.

“I wanted a Disco Landmark, as the budget suited, but...”

I wanted a Disco Landmark, as the budget suited, but as L/R HQ fouled up, I ended up with a Landrover Discovery 2.5TD ES Premium 4x4 (aw shucks!) This vehicle does the business, whether you're transporting colleagues, bits of furniture, or generally flying around the countryside.
The only small problems I have noticed are that the stereo is starting to change from CD to radio, or vice versa, when I go over a bump at a certain angle, and that the second gear is a bit notchy. The MPG could be better, however I bought a car with the aerodynamics of a brick, weighing 2.5 tons, so what did I expect ????
Further to the last reviewer, Broadfields of Bishops Stortford have been brilliant !!!!!

“I bought my Landrover Discovery to be a classic hybrid...”

★★★☆☆

written by RBraddick on 03/07/2004

I bought my Landrover Discovery to be a classic hybrid between car and van. We build exhibition stands and the necessity for a large and capable load carrier was my biggest reason for buying this vehicle.

I chose the end of line range and chose to buy a new Discovery. I chose the top of the range ES Premium. It looks good, and when it works pleases me greatly.

However it doesn't always work and I am beginning to regret the purchase. I think another 10k would have purchased a better vehicle.

My biggest problem is that the Discovery offers a unique proposition in terms of usable size and luxury car specification and family mover. Nothing compares and the "end of line" prices were very competitive!!

You have to buy this vehicle knowing things will go wrong (as I did with TVR many years ago - although the smile never disapperaed with TVR ownership, irrespective of the problems the car developed...). To date the car is 4 months old and has been at the dealership on more occasions than I care to remember. Faults include; oil leak, heat deflectors catching, petrol cap not closing, sat nav problem, and the latest and largest problem is the oil pipe breaking on the gearbox!

All this wouldn't be so bad if my dealership was any good - I hope my local dealer isn't typical of the Land Rover network. Bad doesn't even begin to describe how we are treated at Wooburn Green Land Rover (it took them 8 weeks to pay me the difference on my part exchange!!). I gather some other dealers have much better reputations. I had to write to the Pendragon MD to get any action on my various issues - to date still have no written reply from anyone. Arrogant and chaotic would begin to describe the dealership experience.

My experience is based on having owned Volvo, Saab, BMW, Porsche, TVR, Ford, Renault and Vauxhall cars. Not all perfect by any means but the combination of bad vehicle and dreadful dealer is at it's worst with my Discovery.

Perhaps the vehicles are so bad that the dealers simply cannot cope with the deluge of unhappy customers.
